A Catalog-in-Progress

Franz Thiemer & Co. of Dresden, Germany, published a series of more than 200 pioneer postcards under the name of his business, Compagnie Comet, featuring coloured halftone scenes from around the world, including Canada, dating from about 1897 to 1900. This posting includes an attempt to catalog the cards currently identified in this series. Note that, due to numerous printing and proofing errors, multiple cards exist with the same number but different illustrations, or cards with a number and a letter “a” added after the number. Some cards exist with coloured card stock and white cardstock. Cards commonly exist with and without the stamped Franz Thiemer signature.
